“Pride (In the Name of Love)” was the first single lifted from the Unforgettable Fire album. Written about Martin Luther King, Jr., it is one of U2′s most recognized songs to date. It is also the opening track on the compilation The Best of 1980-1990.

The song was a major chart success for the band.

Pride has always been a favorite in their live set and has appeared in virtually every concert from the Unforgettable Fire Tour on forward. Indeed, as of the end of 2005, it has been played more than any other U2 song in the band’s history, 723 times in 721 shows [1], a notable accomplishment given that it did not appear until the band’s fourth album. (It is quite possible that “I Will Follow”, at 715 playings, would pass “Pride” if all of U2′s early set lists were known.)

The music video for the song featured shots of the docklands area in Dublin. [Info courtesy: wikipedia.org]
